Cameroon-Elite One: Victoria United Confirm Return To Competition After Boycotting Last Playing Day

Victoria United (Opopo) players resumed training earlier this week in preparation for their sixth Elite One match against Avion Academy du Nkam.

“The work is continuing,” the Limbe club announced on its Facebook page. This statement puts an end to the doubts that Opopo have been harbouring for several days about their participation in the competition.

Victoria United’s players failed to turn up at the Centunary Stadium in Limbe on October 21. When contacted by the media outlets, President Valentine Nkwain refused to say why the team decided to boycott. However, those close to Valentine Nkwain suggested that the boycott signalled the end of the season for Opopo.

Many in the local game believe that the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, FECAFOOT, persuaded the Victoria United chairman to go ahead with the tournament.  Samuel Eto’o Fils and Valentine Nkwain are reported in the press to be very close. They had a meeting in private and both published photographs of the meeting. “I am proud of the work you are doing with your team. You will face challenges but stay focused,” Samuel Eto’o Fils wrote to Valentine Nkwain.
