The Speaker of Cameroon’s National Assembly, Right Honourable Theodore Datouo, recently received Dr. Leonie Bwemba, the Honorary Consul General of Malta, to discuss a new era of bilateral cooperation.
During the audience granted her, Dr. Bwemba delivered a formal congratulatory letter from the Speaker of the Maltese House of Representatives, Hon. Angelo Farrugia, who lauded Datouo’s election as a testament to his long-standing public service.
The meeting served as a platform to propose an official visit by a Maltese parliamentary delegation to Cameroon, aiming to solidify the diplomatic bond between the two legislative bodies.
The discussions focused on strategic sectors where Malta’s specialized expertise could accelerate Cameroon’s national growth objectives. Key areas of interest included maritime and infrastructure development, economic investment, education, security, and the ecological transition.
Speaker Datouo specifically highlighted the value of Malta’s experience in large-scale developmental projects and pledged to revitalize the Cameroon-Malta Parliamentary Friendship Group. This initiative is expected to facilitate a continuous exchange of knowledge and best practices between the two nations’ lawmakers.
In addition to international diplomacy, the Speaker emphasized the importance of domestic legislative advocacy, particularly within the architectural sector. He committed the National Assembly’s support to crafting legislation that protects the public from structural failures and shields professional architects from unethical competition.
By aligning these local regulatory goals with international partnerships, the Speaker aims to ensure that Cameroon’s infrastructure expansion is both safe and professionally managed, marking a proactive step toward the country’s long-term development strategy.
