At the crack of dawn on April 13, 2026, the Douala Military Hospital No. 2 – HMR2 became a hub of activity as residents from across the city and neighboring suburbs turned out in record numbers.

The surge in attendance follows the launch of a comprehensive healthcare campaign designed to provide medical relief to the civilian population. This initiative, which is scheduled to run until Friday April 17, serves as a powerful demonstration of the defense forces’ commitment to social welfare and community support beyond their traditional security roles.

The campaign offers a vast array of specialized medical services, ensuring that diverse healthcare needs are met under one roof. Expert teams are currently available in fields such as Ophthalmology, Oncology, Urology, Dermatology, and Gastroenterology.

Furthermore, the hospital has mobilized specialists in Psychiatry, Radiology, and Anesthesia-Resuscitation, providing a level of specialist access that is often difficult for many citizens to attain during standard operations.

While the professional consultations are provided entirely free of charge, the hospital has also implemented a strategic financial relief plan for follow-up care. Patients requiring laboratory tests, specialized examinations, or specific treatments will find these services at a 50% discount.

This significant price reduction is intended to make essential medical interventions more accessible to low-income families, ensuring that the diagnosis provided during the free consultation can lead to actual recovery and treatment.

Under the leadership of Colonel Physician KOKI Godefroy, the Chief Medical Officer of HMR2, the hospital has deployed a structured management system to handle the massive influx of patients.

The military medical teams have been praised for their discipline and the high quality of care provided, ensuring that each visitor receives professional guidance. Colonel Koki’s supervision emphasizes the goal of maintaining high medical standards even during large-scale public outreach events.

The overwhelming response from the public on the opening day highlights a significant demand for accessible healthcare in the region. Many beneficiaries have expressed deep gratitude to the military authorities, with several citizens calling for this initiative to be made a permanent fixture or expanded to other regions across Cameroon.

As the campaign continues through the week, it stands as a successful model of civil-military cooperation, bridging the gap between the armed forces and the communities they serve.
