The Ministry of Sports and Physical Education – MINSEP officially opened its annual Conference of officials this May 11, 2026, at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.
The high-level gathering serves as a strategic platform for administrative and technical leaders to align their actions with President Paul Biya’s “Great Expectations” seven-year term.
Over the course of two days, participants are tasked with evaluating past performances and harmonizing strategies to ensure that sports remain a cornerstone of Cameroon’s national development and international prestige.
Central to the discussions is the role of physical activity as a powerful lever for social cohesion and a pillar of government policy. Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi emphasized that sports are no longer just a pastime but a vital component of the President’s political vision.
By fostering unity and national pride, the sector aims to contribute directly to the stability and social fabric of the nation, bridging generational and regional gaps through the shared values of athletic excellence.
The conference equally highlights the significant infrastructure and financial milestones achieved in recent years. Between 2018 and 2025, Cameroon’s massive investment in world-class stadiums, gymnasiums, and “Parcours Vita” trails has yielded tangible results, with national athletes securing over 3,030 international medals. This momentum has continued into the current seven-year term, with 150 medals already garnered in the first quarter, proving that modern facilities and consistent federation support are key drivers of success.
In addition to celebrating athletic victories, the ministry is focusing on deep-rooted institutional modernization and governance. Secretary General Joseph Yerima noted that the conference follows a decade of significant institutional shifts, necessitating a renewal of internal cohesion.
By improving the interactions between central and regional services, MINSEP aims to streamline administrative processes and adhere strictly to the performance roadmap prescribed by the Prime Minister, Chief Dr. Joseph Dion Ngute.
Ultimately, the proceedings at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex represent a commitment to innovation and creativity in sports management. The ministry intends to go beyond traditional methods to meet the evolving needs of Cameroon’s youth and enhance the country’s global influence.
Through better oversight of federations and improved managerial performance, MINSEP is positioning the sports sector as a strategic asset for the fulfillment of the “Great Expectations” mandate.
