The traditional ruler of Membea Bokwaongo in Buea, HRM Chief Albert Njie Mbonde, has marked the first anniversary of his accession to the throne by reinforcing his commitment to inclusive leadership and social cohesion.

In a grand celebration held at the chief’s palace on Monday, June 8, 2026, the 3rd Class Chief brought together administrative authorities, political leaders, religious figures, and a large crowd of residents. The milestone event beautifully intertwined cultural heritage, the recognition of community service, and a powerful spirit of giving, setting a collaborative tone for the future of the chiefdom.

A central highlight of the festivities was the prestigious installation of General Ngolo Ngomba as a Notable of the chiefdom. Presided over by Chief Njie Mbonde, the traditional ceremony recognized General Ngomba’s outstanding contributions to the development, security, and overall well-being of the Bokwaongo population.

Alongside this cultural elevation, the monarch highlighted ongoing development initiatives under his leadership, notably the renovation of the community health centre and enhanced security measures designed to protect agricultural activities and local residents.

Demonstrating deep solidarity with vulnerable groups, the event featured a massive distribution of essential relief items to more than 100 local farmers and settlers, many of whom fled insecurity in other parts of the North-West and South-West Regions. The donations—which included bags of rice, blankets, buckets, mattresses, and wheelbarrows—were offered in collaboration with goodwill messages, including support on behalf of Cameroon’s First Lady, Mrs. Chantal Biya. Beneficiaries cultivating the fertile slopes of Mount Cameroon expressed immense gratitude, describing the intervention as a timely boost for their welfare during the active farming season.

In his address, Chief Njie Mbonde emphasized that Bokwaongo remains a sanctuary of peace, unity, and mutual support, asserting that when there is something for one person, there should be something for all. While fostering an atmosphere of celebration, the traditional ruler also used the occasion to reinforce messages of social cohesion, urging both indigenous residents and settlers to respect local customs and cultural heritage.

He concluded with a vital safety warning ahead of the peak rainy season, cautioning farmers against spending nights on mountain farms in compliance with traditional regulations aimed at protecting human lives.
