The Telecommunications Regulatory Board (TRB) on February 16, 2026 hosted a high-level delegation from the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) at the Platinum Building in Yaounde. Led by Dr. Cosmas Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT), the mission included ITU Regional Director for Africa Emmanuel Manasseh, alongside regional officials and the Secretary General of MINPOSTEL, Mohamadou Saoudi. The visit, which commenced on February 15 and runs through February 18, underscores a deepening partnership aimed at aligning Cameroon’s telecommunications sector with global standards.
The official ceremony opened with the national anthem, followed by a warm welcome from Zourmba Aboubakar, Deputy Director General of the TRB. Representing Director General Professor Philémon Zoo Zame. He highlighted the strategic importance of this international visit for the nation’s regulatory landscape. To provide context for the delegation, Thomas Marcellin Manyanye, Director of Strategy and Foresight, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the TRB’s mandate, organizational structure, and the technical tools currently deployed to foster digital development and market regulation.
A central theme of the gathering was the evolution of connectivity, with Dr. Cosmas Zavazava addressing the audience on the urgent need to bridge the digital gap. He emphasized that the future of the sector lies in promoting inclusive access by leveraging emerging technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
According to Dr. Zavazava, these innovations are not merely technical milestones but tangible opportunities to accelerate universal service and drive significant socio-economic growth across the region.

The visit facilitated an open dialogue between the ITU experts and TRB officials, allowing for an exchange of technical insights and regulatory best practices. Following these productive discussions, the event transitioned into a more informal setting, featuring a group photo to commemorate the milestone and concluding with a convivial reception on the eighth floor of the Platinum Building. This blend of high-level diplomacy and technical cooperation reflects the mutual respect and shared goals between the two organizations.
By hosting such a prominent ITU mission, the TRB reaffirms its pivotal role as a leader in digital regulation and infrastructure support. This collaboration not only strengthens the working relationship between the TRB, MINPOSTEL, and the ITU but also consolidates Cameroon’s influence in global discussions regarding the future of telecommunications. As the mission continues this week, it marks a significant step toward building a more inclusive, efficient, and technologically advanced digital ecosystem for all Cameroonians.
