The Cameroon water cooperation dubbed CAMWATER joined the global community to commemorate the 34th edition of World Water Day on March 22, 2026, centered on the timely theme: “Water, a Source of Equality.”

To mark the special occasion, the utility provider opened its doors to the next generation of industry experts. Students from the Institut Universitaire des Grandes Écoles des Tropiques – IUGET, specializing in water management and technology, participated in a high-level immersion visit to the Yato drinking water treatment plant in Douala.

The Yato facility remains a cornerstone of Cameroon’s utility infrastructure. Since its inauguration in 2010, the plant has maintained a massive production capacity of 150,000 m³ per day, serving as a lifeline for a significant portion of Douala’s growing population.

Under the guidance of CAMWATER’s Director General, Dr. Blaise Moussa, the visiting students were granted rare access to the complete production chain. They observed the technical intricacies of raw water catchment, the chemical and physical stages of treatment, and the subsequent transport and storage mechanisms required before final distribution to the public.

For the students and their academic supervisors, the visit served as a vital bridge between theoretical coursework and industrial reality. By witnessing the scale of operations firsthand, the learners gained a deeper appreciation for the complexities involved in maintaining water quality and consistent supply.

The IUGET delegation expressed profound gratitude to CAMWATER’s top management for providing this professional exposure, which they noted is essential for developing the practical skills needed to manage Africa’s future water challenges.

Beyond the educational outreach, CAMWATER used the 2026 World Water Day celebrations to reaffirm its commitment to social equity and universal access. The corporation is currently intensifying efforts to ensure that clean drinking water reaches every household, regardless of socio-economic status.

In line with this mission, the General Management is actively encouraging citizens to take advantage of new incentive measures designed to make household water connections more affordable and accessible to the general public.
