The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education – MINJEC  and UBA Cameroon on April 7, 2026 officially renewed their partnership at the Hilton Hotel in Yaounde, marking a significant milestone in their shared vision for youth development.

This renewed agreement, comprising three chapters and eighteen articles, focuses on the continued production and distribution of the Biometric Youth Card – BYC. After five successful years of collaboration, both institutions expressed deep satisfaction with the progress made, reaffirming their commitment to providing innovative solutions that cater to the evolving needs of Cameroon’s younger generation.

During the ceremony, Armand Pierre Mveme Atangana, Permanent Secretary of the National Youth Observatory, addressed previous concerns regarding the card’s functionality by highlighting its practical benefits.

UBA Cameroon officials followed with a live demonstration, showcasing how the card serves as a “precious key” to a wide array of financial and banking services. The bank emphasized its readiness to intensify efforts in this new phase, ensuring that young people can easily navigate the modern financial landscape and gain the inclusion necessary for economic independence.

The Biometric Youth Card is increasingly recognized as a vital tool for personal and professional fulfillment, as noted by Minister Mounouna Foutsou. By bridging the gap between government social programs and high-quality financial services, the card enables beneficiaries to execute their projects with greater efficiency and proximity.

Personal testimonials, such as those from entrepreneur Christine Manga Fouda, illustrated the card’s real-world impact, proving that it is more than just an identification document—it is an engine for entrepreneurial success and financial literacy.

Targeting a demographic of over 9 million young citizens, the BYC serves as a cornerstone of the nation’s economic and financial education strategy. The card is valid across the entire national territory and remains renewable for holders until they reach the age of 35.

By fostering a culture of financial responsibility and providing the infrastructure for modern transactions, the MINJEC/UBA partnership is setting a robust foundation for the future leaders of Cameroon to capture emerging business opportunities and build a resilient economy.
