In a significant move to revitalize urban hygiene, the Bamenda City Council has received a fleet of 25 tricycles from the Presidential Plan for the Reconstruction and Development – PPRD.

Handed over at the Bamenda ceremonial grandstand on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, the donation was prompted by the Head of State’s concerns towards the city’s sanitation challenges. These specialized vehicles are designed to enhance waste management efficiency by facilitating door-to-door garbage collection and ensuring refuse is transported effectively to designated disposal points, supplementing the ongoing cleaning efforts of the Empire Group.

The City Mayor Achobong Tambeng Paul expressed deep gratitude for the intervention, describing the equipment as a symbol of hope and a “new beginning” for the regional capital.

During the reception, the mayor emphasized that the tricycles would be deployed immediately to eliminate garbage from public spaces and restore the city’s aesthetic appeal.

He framed the donation as part of a broader transition toward progress, urging the population to abandon destructive practices like ghost towns and kidnapping in favor of a future built on solidarity, love, and the physical rebuilding of local infrastructure.

Presiding over the ceremony, the Governor of the North-West Region, Lele Lafrique Tchoffo Deben Adolphe, commended the development plan for its role in fostering peace through tangible community improvements.

The Governor issued a directive for the City Council to make the tricycles operational by the very next day to ensure the city is pristine for the historic visit of Pope Leo XIV to the town on Thursday, April 16. He further called on residents to take individual responsibility towards their surroundings by clearing abandoned vehicles and maintaining order along major transit routes.

The donation, facilitated by the Regional Delegate of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development, Buinda Godlove Nsakabo, is the latest in a series of PPRD-led recovery initiatives. Previous interventions have included the construction of vital bridges, schools, and roads, as well as providing support to agricultural startups affected by regional instability.

By addressing the immediate need for sanitation alongside long-term infrastructure goals, the PPRD continues to play a central role in the socio-economic recovery and peace drive within the North-West Region.
