The South African-produced Deuce Gin and Rooibos Ice Tea officially entered the Cameroonian market on May 1, 2026, with a vibrant launch at the Rue 66 snack bar in Yaounde’s Bastos neighborhood.
Introduced on International Labour Day, the brand’s arrival serves as a celebration of the growing economic collaboration and cultural exchange between Cameroon and South Africa.
The event was attended by high-profile guests, including the South African Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E. Mandla Langa, who praised the venture as a vital bridge between the two nations.
Founded in 2021 by Mmapula Mofokeng Lebona, the brand—formerly known as Doosan—is a “COVID baby” born from a desire to innovate during global confinement. Collaborating with an award-winning female master distiller in Cape Town, Lebona developed a premium London Dry Gin that earned a Gold Award in 2022.
The company further distinguished itself as a pioneer by becoming the first South African firm to offer canned pre-mixed gin, eventually earning double spirit awards in 2024 for its unique flavors and innovative packaging.
The brand’s expansion into Cameroon marks its third major African milestone, following successful entries into Kenya and Eswatini. Strategist Njabulo Thabang Mlotshwa and the founder emphasized that their journey from a small-scale operation to managing 60 outlets within two years was built on resilience.

After facing production challenges and industry competition, the team pivoted toward a pan-African vision, with Cameroon now serving as a strategic hub before the brand moves toward Zimbabwe, Côte d’Ivoire, and eventually Atlanta.
Catering to a variety of preferences, the product line includes both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, specifically tailored to suit the Cameroonian palate. The signature Rooibos Berry Rose Ice Tea was introduced in 2025 to complement the spirits, offering a refreshing, locally inspired alternative. To ensure accessibility, the drinks have been priced competitively at FCFA 1,500 for the non-alcoholic cans and FCFA 2,500 for the alcoholic versions, making the premium South African experience available to a wide demographic.
The successful landing in Yaoundé was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Cameroonian collaborators Mancho Ndeh and Soelle Tuegno Guiamegne. Moving forward, the mission focuses on converting initial tasters into a loyal consumer base while leveraging diplomatic support to ensure long-term stability.
By integrating South African innovation with Cameroonian hospitality, Deuce Gin aims to become a staple in snacks and drinking spots across the country’s ten regions.
